Deputy Managing Editor, The New York Times
Rebecca Blumenstein is deputy managing editor of The New York Times, playing a key role as head of Global Talent and Operations in charge of hiring, retention, career development and efforts to improve culture and diversity. As deputy editor from February 2021 to March 2022, she led The Times' effort to relocate and resettle more than 200 current and former Afghan colleagues and their families following the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in 2021.
She worked previously at The Wall Street Journal, where she led a China-based team that won the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan, where she was editor-in-chief of the Michigan Daily.>
