Sharilyn Hufford is deputy editor of platforms for The New York Times where she helps lead a team that develops and implements technology to support news publishing across digital and print platforms. She works with partners in the newsroom, technology and product to translate journalists’ needs into tools that help produce the news report. Previously, she was an assistant metro editor at the Detroit Free Press and a designer for the front page and special projects at The Charlotte Observer in North Carolina. She started her career at the Savannah Morning News in Georgia, where she held several roles ranging from copy editor to webmaster to planning editor. Hufford is involved in mentoring programs and an employee resource group for women in technology. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism.
